Follow up on Blowback: Stratfor article on Post-Gadhafi Libya and the Syrian Conflict
Stratfor has a free article on Post-Gadhafi Libya, summary, the fall of Gadhafi released a pressure valvue that had kept tribal and regional rivalry at bay. What does this mean in Syria? Syria, like Libya, and much of the mideast, has a conplex web of regional, religous, and tribal affiliations that need to be taken into account before foreign policy action can be taken. It took Europe almost a thousands years to coallesce into modern nation states. The concept of an Englishman, Frenchman, Italian, or a German is very old. The concept of Libyans, Syrians, Israeli, or Iraqi is not nearly as entrenched.
