Two Dollar Tyranny
I get that Olympian medalists are taxed for the cash earnings they receive from the US Olympic committee when they win a medal. However, there is something wrong about the IRS forcing Olympic medalist to pay $ 2 to keep their Olympic gold medal. Most of our Olympic athletes do not have lucrative contracts like Michael Phelps, not that there is anything wrong with Michael Phelps being awarded vasts sums of money, and there are a few that end up with significant out of pocket expenses. It doesn't sit well with me that individuals who earn our nation international honor get dinged like this. I wonder if our Nobel prize medal winners must do the same?
